Stefan Fatsis is the author of Unabridged: The Thrill of (and Threat to) the Modern Dictionary (October 2025) and three previous books: A Few Seconds of Panic, about life in the NFL (2008); Word Freak, about the world of competitive Scrabble (2001); and Wild and Outside, about minor league baseball (1995). Fatsis is a former cohost of Slate's weekly sports podcast, "Hang Up and Listen," and a former sports commentator on NPR's "All Things Considered." Fatsis was a longtime staff reporter for The Wall Street Journal and has written and talked for The New York Times, Slate, The Atlantic, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, New York, Defector, and many other outlets. He lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife, Melissa Block.
